I Wonder About My People

I wonder about my people
Where did all my Black American Fae Folk go?
No really
Where are all the Black American Fae folk?
Did they run away
From the bad publicity
of their beauty
from the limelight
Afraid their wings would get tagged
By cultural icons
And missing status symbols
Are they on the road
Looking for role models
Moving invisibly along
Floating on their still working
Weak and working
Battle ready and battle worn
Wings
As I drive by

I wonder about my people
Where are all the Black American fae?
born in the city
born in the snow
praising God Almighty
through their motown
slow dancin’
with the Holy Spirit
Where did they
my people
My fae
My Black American wonders
My fae folk
go?
Surely it is a devil’s trick
for me to think
I am the only
Black American fae folk
left
and I am looking for home
A home that has gone away

I wonder about my people
Is it ok
To wonder if Jesus was fae
Not FAE
But my kind
ethereal
in this world
but not of it
otherworldly magic
Can I be His kind of fae
And mix my
Good ol’ Southern
Almost Baptist love
With this fae of non-worldly description
or understanding
Where did all my Black American fae folk
go?

I wonder about my people
If someone would only stand up and say
here I am
Maybe me
I’ll let them see me this way
Somebody’s gotta start the revival
My Black American Fae
Will you join in
or shy away
I pray you’ll stand up too
And call out
sing out
cry out
stand out
just so I know you are still here
And we can praise God together
Good and loud
in tune and out of tune with our hands raised
And our wings in the air

VA Earthquake 2011

Here is my checkin. I also published one on DC Examiner.

I am fine.

I was in a basement at the time thinking, I know what the ground is supposed to feel like so either that is a huge, long, truck, or we are definitely having an earthquake. I went outside and danced with the ground. Nothing was broken, or even really bothered where I live or work. The 5.8 earthquake epicenter was just outside of Richmond, VA. Washington Monument has cracks at the top (so there has been damage in the area). The Nuclear Power Plants near the area of the epicenter have both been shut down. It makes me homesick for Cali, and yet, I feel badly for the people who are really freaked out and suffering. I submitted information to the USGS (US Geological Survey) Did You Feel It? link.

Everyone I wondered about immediately flooded Facebook with checkins and commentary, so it made me appreciate the technology trap for a few moments.

I am requesting prayers (Culpepper County, VA has declared a state of emergency).

Hurricane Irene is coming through this area over the coming weekend, and according to the WX-Men, Irene could become a major hurricane in the next few days (she’s a category 2 now). The Martin Luther King Memorialdedication (scheduled for Sunday) may be postponed due to the weather that may be coming. Please prepare as best you can for what is coming.

Ok, that is a life statement, not just a weather statement.
